Wichita, KS— Friends University is proud to announce the ribbon cutting of the Center for Enterprise and Community Engagement (CECE). The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in the Olive White Garvey Business and Technology Building on the Wichita campus.

In August 2024, during the annual Breakfast with the President event, Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, the university’s president, announced the unveiling of the Center for Enterprise and Community Engagement (CECE). In addition, she shared the exciting news of a generous $1 million donation that would fund the center’s development and operations.

Since then, Rachel Steiner has led the center, where students have provided resources, project assistance and business support to the non-profit and business community around Wichita. In the past academic year, students that opted in have attended the Wichita Business Journal Talent Summit, announced connections with the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Wichita, met with IMA Financial Group, Inc. leadership, and much more.

“We are very grateful for the amazing gift that started our dynamic center for our students and community. Propelled by one of our Friends University core values of service, I look forward to seeing more of the students engaging with the business and non-profit communities, in what we expect will be transformational learning experiences,” said Dr. Carey.

Friends University continues the 125th Anniversary celebrations with an original full-length documentary premiere of Within Her Storied Walls at the Orpheum Theatre on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.

The premiere of Within Her Storied Walls allows viewers to step inside 125 years of stories from within the walls of the clock tower at the edge of Wichita. Standing tall for over a century, Friends University Davis Administration Building has seen the development of a bustling city, the heartache of pandemics, the weight of economic downturn, and the hope driven by a faithful legacy; the result of a stereoscope salesman’s bold dream.

“It has been an exciting year celebrating the monumental milestone of 125 years of Friends University,” said Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, president of Friends University. “This full-length documentary gives a visual picture of our beloved university from where it started to where we are now spanning 125 years. The Davis Administration Building is the same building where it all began when the university opened. These walls have transformed many lives and supported a firm foundation of history and a mission at Friends University. It is an honor and blessing to be a part of the Friends University history.”

Within Her Storied Walls was directed and produced by Anna Marie Carey and supported by the Council of Independent Colleges and Lilly Endowment, Inc. The one-night-only event features never-before-seen interviews from past presidents, alumni, faculty and board members.

Tickets for the documentary premiere are $12.50 and can be purchased through the Orpheum Theatre here.

Davis in 1898 offers over 60 degree programs from business, education, fine arts, STEM, theology and humanities, graduate level degrees and the first-ever doctoral program in Christian spiritual formation and soul care.

Phase one of the Friends University RISE Up Capital Campaign project for the Garvey Physical Education Center is now complete. Leaders and several distinguished guests will host a live ribbon-cutting event on Friday, Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. to commemorate the $2.3-million-dollar renovation project on the university’s campus. This event will be broadcast online via Friends University’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

“This renovation is a symbol of our dedication to Falcon athletics, our student-athletes and coaches who work hard and train every day while representing Friends University,” said Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, president of Friends University. “This project would not have been made possible without the generous gifts from our Falcon friends who believe in our mission at Friends and stand on a firm foundation of faith with us. We are blessed to have been able to watch this transformation which will bring a lifetime of growth for the Friends community.”

Over the last five months, McCownGordon and Shelden Architecture have updated and renovated several spaces in the Garvey P.E. Center to transform it into a first-rate facility. The four main areas that saw major improvement included a larger training room, an expanded weight room, administrative spaces/team meeting room and a refreshed main lobby.
